The government defines microgeneration as the production of heat and/or electricity on a small-scale from a low carbon source. The various technologies have the potential to help us achieve our objectives of tackling climate change, ensuring reliable energy and tackling fuel poverty.
Government research suggests that by 2050, microgeneration could help cut domestic carbon emissions by 15%. In response, Ruth Kelly, the then Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government (now The Rt Hon Hazel Blears MP), launched a consultation on microgenration that proposes giving people greater freedom to install microgenration devices on their homes, where impact on their neighbours is limited.
